Funeral services for Marvin E. Flory, 85, Baldwin City, KS will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Willow Springs Old German Baptist Brethren Church. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Grove, KS. Mr. Flory died on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
He was born on June 22, 1923 near Cerro Gordo, IL, the son of Riley and Ruth Beeghley Flory. He was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church on August 15, 1948.
Mr. Flory retired as a plumber at the University of Kansas. He formerly worked for the Road and Bridge Department in Douglas County, and did maintenance at the Lawrence Manor Nursing Home. He was a member of the Willow Springs Old German Baptist Brethren Church in SW Douglas County.
He was united in marriage to Eula Belle Shuler on December 23, 1947, by his father, at the home of her parents. They made their home near Cerro Gordo, IL, until 1957, when they moved near Baldwin, KS to be near Eula Bell’s family during her illness. The union was broken by her death on July 14, 1958.
He was again united in marriage to Anna Catherine Mohler, by her father, at the home of her parents on March 26, 1959 near Baldwin City, KS. They made their home and raised their family near Lawrence, KS. This union also was broken by Ann’s death on November 24, 2002.
Survivors include one daughter, Julia Arlene Campbell, and husband, John Kevin, Knob Noster, MO; four sons, James Leonard, and wife, Phyllis, Lawrence, Chris Allen, and wife, Linda, Baldwin City, Benjamin Riley, Richmond, KS, Bradley Marvin, and wife Sue Ann, Waynesboro, PA; two brothers; John Elmer, and wife, Elsie, Covington, Ohio, Norman, and wife, Pauline, Eldorado, Ohio, eighteen grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two spouses, one daughter, Leora Marie, one sister, Anne Hess, one grandson, Isaiah James Flory.
The family will greet friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
