Marjorie Boon

Marjorie Baerg Boon’s funeral and burial will be at sea, off the coast of California.  She died on September 6, 2009 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, after a long illness.

Marjorie was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Chicago, where she earned her Ph.D.  She taught Germanics at De Paw University, and at the University of Kansas where she was Director of Graduate Studies, in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures.

She was born on June 16, 1925, the only child of Roy E. and Adele Lane at Highland Park, Michigan.

The widow of Gerhard Baerg, in 1972 she married Jean-Pierre Boon, her colleague at the University of Kansas.  He survives of the home.

For many years Marjorie presided over the German Conversation Group, at the University’s Women’s Club.  She was past president and member of Friends in Council.  In 2006, she was awarded the Congressional Order of Merit.

The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society, in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
