Lula Jennings-Trowbridge

Graveside services for Lula Margaret Jennings Trowbridge, 92, will be held at Sutton Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS, on May 9, 2009, at 3:00 pm.  Mrs. Trowbridge died on April 25, 2009, at Seneca House in Seneca, MO.

She was born on January 16, 1917, in Lawrence, KS, and lived in the Lawrence and Baldwin area for 85 years, before moving to southern Missouri.  On May 6, 1933, Lula married Earl Dennis Trowbridge in Lawrence, KS; they were married for 50 years.

Lula worked in several stores in the Lawrence, KS, area including Duckwalls, Montgomery Wards, House of Fabrics, and Terrill’s.  In 1969 she began working at the University of Kansas Theater Department, successfully managing the costume shop for theater productions.  She continued in this position until her retirement in 1982.

Lula’s passion was fabrics and sewing.  She was a master quilter whose quilting ability was widely recognized throughout the area.  She continued to make quilts until the final few years of her life.  Her quilts were nearly all given as gifts and are treasured by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, an infant daughter Mary Ann, and one son Lee Earl, four brothers, George, Raymond, John, and infant Roy Jennings.  Survivors include three sons: Ray and wife Bonnie of Desert Hot Springs, CA, David and wife Linda of rural Neosho, MO, and Roy and wife Bobbie of rural Seneca, MO, one brother Archie Jennings and wife Barbara of Seymour, MO, 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
