The Shultz family was our neighbor when I was young, and I’ll always remember how much fun Joe was and how he enjoyed playing with all the neighborhood kids. He was one of the “cool” dads back then that all the kids enjoyed being around. I babysat for Kimmie Sue and Craig when they were little and truly enjoyed the friendship our families had back then. Joe was one of those kind-hearted guys who would drop everything to help out in any way, and could light up a room with his smile and laugh. My prayers are with Pat, Kimmie Sue, and Craig, and I hope they will take comfort in knowing that Joe will make Heaven a bit brighter.

The one thing that will always stand out in my mind about Joe was when my Mom was in the hospital dying. He came up to see us and gave us a roll of quarters – so we could make phone calls at the pay phone if we neede to. What a simple and thoughtful thing to do. That was Joe. And now how strange to think about just saying Jeff and Jim, instead of Jeff, Joe and Jim. Our love and thoughts are with all of you.

I loved Joe very much he let me live with him when I had no where to go. I met Joe in 2002 and he always was there for me when I needed him. I regret not being there for him in the end. I am sorry for the family’s loss. I am also saddened for his friends who he considered family.

The thing that sticks out in my mind the most is Joe’s smile and his hugs. I noticed Jennie said Jeff,Joe,Jim – I always say Jimmy Joe Jeff! And for a long time when Aimee was younger she thought that was one person! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Our love to each of you. Mike

  31. Craig Shultz on January 14, 2010 at 12:00 am

I want to thank the hundreds of you that we have seen and heard from the past few days. For those of who did not know what happened, Dad was on his way to a morning doctors appointment. He bumped the steering wheel while taking off his coat and lost control of his van. The doctors worked night and day and simply could not save him. The kind words that have been written and spoken will stick with our family forever. My dad never met a stranger and I have been told that I was given the same gift. I am sad that he is not with us, but I am happy that his pain and worry are gone. Thank you again for sharing with our family.
