John “Johnny” Glinka

John “Johnny” Lawrence Glinka, 62, Lawrence, died at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Mach 10, 2012 after a short illness.  He was born July 27, 1949 in Lawrence, son of John Louis and Charlotte E. (Rabb) Glinka.  Charlotte preceded him in death April 11, 1994.

Private inurnment will be at Pioneer Cemetery in Lawrence.  A private memorial service is pending.

Born developmentally disabled, John overcame many challenges and illnesses growing up.  One of the best parts of his life began in 1992 when he entered the Work Enrichment program at Cottonwood, Inc. and began living in a Cottonwood residential home with other companions.  During his 20 years with Cottonwood, he was supported in living a meaningful life.  He truly enjoyed laughter and being with his friends.

Survivors include his father, John Louis Glinka and his wife, Almeda, Lawrence; sister, Charlee Glinka and her husband, Greg Shipe, Eudora; several cousins; and his entire Cottonwood family and friends.

John’s family wishes to express their deep appreciation to everyone at Cottonwood, and to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital ER and ICU staff and doctors.  You are caring givers, one and all.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in John’s name to the Cottonwood Foundation, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
