Funeral service for Jack Warren Bannister, 86, Eudora will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary- Eudora Chapel. Burial will follow at Eudora Cemetery with Military Honors. Mr. Bannister died December 6, 2010 at his home.
He was born on November 8, 1924 in Dalzell, Illinois the son of Amos and Charity (Wood) Bannister. He was the youngest of eight children.
He served in the U.S. Army Third Infantry Division, 15th Infantry, based out of Fort Ord, California during WWII. He attended Grace and Glory Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri and served as a teacher there for a number of years. He was one of the original founders of and pastor at Grace Chapel in Carbondale, Kansas from 1958 until 1980. He also served as pastor at Christian Assembly Tabernacle in Kansas City, Missouri from December 1980 until October 1981. Together with his wife, he published a faith based monthly magazine, The Point Of Reference, from 1981 until the present, the publication continues. Mr. Bannister was a member of the Dorsey-Liberty Post #14, American Legion in Lawrence.
He married Lois Clark on June 7, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Dawn Rosebrough and husband, Larry, of Topeka, Lesli Eller and husband, Bruce, Gardner, Kansas; one son, Charles Bannister and wife, Donna, Eudora. He also leaves behind two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel.
In Lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made in his name to The Pauline Ministry Publication and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

We rejoice for your HOMEGOING and in knowing that you are no longer in any pain! Thank you for always having a kind word when we were discouraged — always gentle and kind — with the strongest spirit ever!
Thank you most of all for teaching us the Word of God and its principles which NEVER CHANGE!That knowledge will be with us forever!
You will be dearly missed by all who loved you — most of all your family for whom you cared in such a wonderful way! You are an example above all others in how to lead a successful life and pleasing to God!

As I looked down into the face of an old saint of God, I thought your race is over your life’s crown is won. Separated for the present but soon to meet again and he’s only gone away with a friend.
A constant companion, through life’s joy and pain all my hopes and all my dreams, I trust to your dear name. And when my soul breaks free from the ties that hold me here gone away with Jesus, no other friend so dear.

When you talk about him I can hear the respect you have and makes me wish that I could have known him . It should give his family great honor to know that his contribution to his country, family, friends and acquaintances he will have a front row seat with eternal life in the Church of Christ ..

I had the pleasure of meeting your Dad and Mother a few years ago. They have left an imprint on my heart forever. I appreciate the timeless message they have shared in the Pauline Ministry paper, Point of Reference ever since.
What gracious and kind folks they are, and what an inheritance you all have!

Jack and Lois were pastors at Grace Chapel, Carbondale, Ks when I first started church there. I learned a great deal from them, and miss Jack. But I have, inside, the Word of God in which he helped to establish me. That I am so greatful to have. Thank you Jack. I love you.
I knew one of Jack’s relatives, and visited the fellowship in Grandview, MO. He spoke that Sunday and was blessed to hear a PERSON, with more color than his great Bible teaching, alone. It seems more real when you hear a person, rather than reading a black and white magazine like “Grace and Glory”, or “The Point of Reference.”
So THAT was about 1985, and decades later I was studying a teaching on Romans 6, probably a favorite of Jack. I read some of the definitions and thought, “Where is Jack now? Could he still live close to me?” His scriptural ideas were still very close to me, and I have been sharing them with many other people.
So to answer the question I thought I needed to look for an obituary. Even though it was 7 years ago and I VERY MUCH missed out, I still have to grieve some with the family.
Jack, we know where you are. I’ll see you some day.
