Gilbert Weidman

A private inurnment for Gilbert Edwin Weidman, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, SC and formerly of Lawrence, KS, will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.  He died on Wednesday, November 24 at Medical University of South Carolina.  

Known as "Gibby", he was a WWII Navy veteran, a rhythm guitarist during the big band era, a guitar instructor, a lyricist, and electronics repairman.  He was a retired US Postal Service clerk in Lawrence.

He moved from Lawrence to South Carolina in 2007. 

He married his loving wife Ethel Lorraine Fields, sixty-eight years ago on January 2, 1942. They enjoyed performing together at nursing homes, senior centers and schools, along with their musically-trained children. 

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Weidman of Manor Care Health Services of Topeka, and five children: Leslie Massopust and her husband Jim, of San Marcos, CA, Gilbert A. “Buddy” Weidman and his wife Lydia, of Topeka, KS, Tacy Edwards and her husband Darrell, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Durand “Randy” Weidman and his wife Christine, of Salina, KS, Thyde “Lori” Brickman and her husband Jonathan, of Topeka, KS, as well as nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren. 

Memorials may be made to East Cooper Meals on Wheels, 2304 N. Hwy. 17, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
