Eunice Ebert-Stallworth

 

Funeral service for Eunice H. Ebert-Stallworth, 50, Lawrence, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.  She died September 16, 2009, at her home.

She was born on January 24, 1959, in Hartselle, Alabama, the daughter of Isaac F. Stallworth, Sr. and Eva Lee Henderson Stallworth. She moved to Lawrence in 1977.

Eunice received her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from the University of Kansas.  She also studied in Greece and Cambridge, England.  She was currently working on her doctorate dissertation.  She also performed around the world as a theatrical performer.  She performed at the World’s Fair.

She was a freelance artist and performer for many years.  She worked as an administrative assistant at the KU Alumni Association where she also advised the chancellor on the status and coordinated visits with HINU.  She was a story teller at the Lawrence Public Library.  Previously she produced and hosted a live call-in arts program at Sunflower Cablevision. Eunice had been the archery supervisor at Robinson Gymnasium in the early 80’s where she taught beginning and intermediate level archery skills and techniques. 

Eunice was a member of many organizations including the American Association of University Women, Zeta Phi Beta Social Sorority at KU, Kabuki Theater Touring Company through the KU International Studies Department, the Jaycees and had been a member of the National Honor Society. She also volunteered for many organizations including the Girl Scouts as a leader, Concerts in the Park, Headstart Community Children’s Center, and the Lawrence Arts Center.  In 1998, Eunice was the Chair of Entertainment and Promotions for the Ethnic Festival, and from 1979 until 1981 she was the Co-Chair, President and Director of the University of Kansas Chapter for National Collegiate Athletic Association Volunteers for Youth program. She was a finalist in the Miss Alabama Universe 1977 World’s Ideal Miss Congeniality, Baton Rouge, LA.  She attended Mustard Seed Fellowship and was very interested in the work of the Ballard Center.

Survivors include a her mother, Eva Stallworth, Hartselle, AL; two daughters, Lee-Anna Ebert-Stallworth, San Francisco, CA, Angelika Ebert-Stallworth, both of San Francisco, CA; a son, Christoph, Lawrence, KS; two brothers, Isaac F. “Bud” Stallworth, Lawrence, KS, Lavoisiere “Jerry” J. Stallworth, Oakland, CA; and a sister, Harriette Stevens, San Francisco, CA.  She was expecting her first grandchild next month.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 24, at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Ballard Center of Lawrence or to the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Lawrence and sent in the care of the mortuary.
