Private graveside inurnment services for Elizabeth Francis Jacobs, 107, Lawrence, KS, are planned for a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK. She died Friday, May 18, 2012, at her home in the Brandon Woods Retirement Community.
Mrs. Jacobs was born on July 13, 1904, in Marble Falls, TX, the daughter of Carl and Charlotte Elizabeth (Spence) Francis. She graduated from Marble Falls High School, and attended Southwestern College, Georgetown, TX. She became a private piano teacher and taught students in her home for 65 years. She lived in San Antonio, TX, Sonora, TX, Marfa, TX, and Pauls Valley, OK, before moving to Lawrence in 1990. At the time of her death, she was the oldest resident of Brandon Woods Retirement Community.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, and Chapter GQ of the PEO Sisterhood. In Pauls Valley, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pauls Valley Music Club, and PEO.
She married Robert William Jacobs in Sonora, TX, on June 12, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert W. Jacobs, and his wife Sheryl, of Lawrence; two nieces, Linda Robel of Des Moines, IA, and Juanita Ivy, of San Antonio; and three grandchildren, Robert K. Jacobs and his wife, Michelle, Wichita, Jennifer E. Higdon and her husband, Andrew, Denver, and David A. Jacobs, Denver, and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association or the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence.
I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Elizabeth. Please know you have my deepest condolences during this difficult time. Elizabeth was a wonderful woman and her memory will live on forever through family and friends. When I lost someone dear to me, I was told of a precious hope found in God’s Word. Jesus relayed a promise from his heavenly Father-Jehovah-(Ps.83:18) that the hour is coming in which there would be a bringing back to life (or resurrection) of all those in the memorial tombs (John 5:28). I draw comfort knowing that one day I will see my sister again and will be able to embrace her right here on earth. (Psalms 37:29) Although it doesn’t completely take away the pain that is felt today, I pray that you can draw comfort from that same hope of seeing Elizabeth again and embracing her. Loving thoughts and prayers of peace are with you. Jeremiah 29:11,12.

There was no one like Francis. I was Activities Director from
1989 to 2000 and she was the piano player for all our sing alongs. She even worked with the staff for our holiday carols. Then at 95 she was a go getter and lived her life to the fullest. Heaven has a new angle today.

Robert, I have such fond memories of your mother from my years as her piano/organ student. I know she would be glad to know that I still play both and occasionally play the organ at my church. She taught me “everything I know” about piano!!

Paul and I credit Francis with encouraging our courtship. She and Mae George thought we were a perfect match and encouraged us to meet. We have been happily married for 21 years.. I played the piano at the Christian Church in Pauls Valley when your mother played the organ. I loved her very much. She was so encouraging to me. Would love to attend her memorial service in OKC. Please accept our sincere sympathy.
Dear Jacobs family, Mrs. Jacobs taught me piano and organ lessons for about ten wonderful years. She was so very patient and caring, and her talent was remarkable. I have so many fond memories if her that I treasure. Buddy, you were blessed to be her son.
