Edward Speich

Memorial service for Edward “Skip” R. Speich, Sr., 65, Lawrence will be held 6 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church.  Mr. Speich died on February 15, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born on January 5, 1945 in Kansas City the son of Robert Walter and Ruth Louise Speich. 

Mr. Speich worked while in high school and later became manager for Cuttings United Super in Platte Woods, Missouri for over 20 years.  He owned an antique store in Ottawa, KS and was a manager in two grocery stores in Ottawa.  He became a school bus driver for Lawrence School District and was a volunteer fireman in Parkville, Missouri

He was married to Donna Duncan Briggs on October 10, 1998 in Ottawa.  She survives the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Danni Harrison, Overland Park, KS, Tracy Foss, Brandonville, Florida, Tina Briggs, Lawrence; four sons, Bob, Mission, KS, Allen, North Kansas City, MO, Chris, Riverside, MO, Aaron Briggs, Lawrence, two brothers, David, Gladstone, MO, Michael, Excelsior Springs, MO; 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson on the way.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    I am saddened to hear of Skip’s passing. I worked for him at Waymire’s in Ottawa while I was in high school. I always enjoyed Skip and he always looked out for us! What a special man. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.
