A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Ann Brown, 89, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Emporia, KS. She died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at her home under the care of her husband and Kansas Visiting Nurses Association (Hospice Care).
Dorothy was born December 6, 1923 in Ellis, Kansas the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Peters) Brown.
She was an interior decorator until she retired in 1990. She then opened her business of custom cleaning homes. She was well liked by her customers and friends for her nice smile and friendly disposition.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Pfannenstiel; four brothers; and three sisters.
She married Richard J. Brown July 1975 in Lawrence, KS. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include one daughter, Karen (Ted) Hunt, Prescott Valley, AZ; one son, Philip (Carol) Pfannenstiel, Marquette, MI; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two step children, Jennifer Miller and Jeff Brown; two step grandchildren; and one sister, Martina Weidenbenner, Post Falls, ID.
A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. The family will greet friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in her name to Visiting Nurses and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
