Private Family Inurnment Services for Doris Jean Bryant, 81, Lawrence will be held at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS. She died on January 10, 2010 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Center.
She was born on February 5, 1928 in Coffeyville, KS the daughter of Eugene Stanley and Ruby Viola Matlock Dienst.
She attended school in Coffeyville and Independence Community Jr. College.
She moved to Chicago where she worked as a secretary at Billing’s Hospital University of Chicago while her husband attended Northern Illinois College of Optometry. They moved to Fredonia, KS in 1949. Mrs. Bryant was an accomplished artist who worked at Kansas Banknote Company and as a Photo Tinter for Blankenship Photography Studio while in Fredonia. In later years she worked as secretary for her husband’s Optometric Practice. At retirement in 2001 they moved to Lawrence, KS. Mrs. Bryant was a member of P.E.O. and the American Humanist Society.
She married Dr. Robert Hartley Bryant in 1946 in Lawrence, KS. He proceeded her in death in September 4, 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelby L. Bryant and Marianne “Mern” Wildcat, both of Lawrence; one grandson, Hakan Daniel Wildcat, Lawrence; two brothers, Dr. John Stanley Dienst O.D., Newton, Kansas and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Daniel Wayne Dienst, Katy, Texas.
The family suggests memorial contribution in her name to the Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Hi all. Thanks for calling today about Aunt Doris. I told Mom about it and she felt badly but then said she’ll be with Bob, and that’s good.
Your mom and dad were my favorite aunt and uncle. They always paid allot of attention to me and were genuinely interested in my life. I felt especially close to both of them.

We fondly remember our visits to Doris and Bob’s Fredonia home. A welcoming, warm,and generous atmosphere. Over the years they had become like family.
We will miss Doris and her “Quirky” sense of humor.
We can hear Bob now. “Look out, here she comes”!!

Aunt Doris was such a lovely and talented woman. She was so much fun to be around when all of us cousins were kids. She had a unique sense of humor and a lovely laugh. It was delightful to have known her. Love, Janey

I just received the news about Aunt Doris. I’m so sorry, Marianne and Shelby. Your Mom and Dad were two of my “very” favorite people of all. I had so much fun with them at family gatherings at Grandma and Grandaddy Bryant’s when we were growing up. At Thanksgiving and Christmas. And then at your house in Fredonia.Someday we’ll “all” be together again in Heaven as one big happy family, and we’ll never have to say goodbye again.

I was so sorry to hear of the death of your beloved mother. She was such a lovely person, very talented and versed in the arts. What a lovely voice she had…I loved listening to her talk and laugh. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.
