Donald Sherman

Funeral services for Donald V. Sherman, 82, Lawrence will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery with military honors.  Mr. Sherman died June 15, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born on December 10, 1928 in Amorita, OK the son of Grant Earnest and Pearl Blanche (Arb) Sherman.    

He worked at Cities Service Gas Company which later became Williams Company for 34 years before he retired on December 31, 1983 as Superintendent of gas transmission.  Following retirement he moved to Lawrence in 1984.                           

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tonganoxie.  He was also a member of Jayhawk Model Masters of Lawrence and he acted as a Marshall at Alvamar Country Club in Lawrence for many years.

Donald married Ethel Briggs on April 4, 1953 in Barnsdall, OK.  She survives of the home. 

Other survivors include four daughters, Luanne Fisher, and husband Larry, St. John, KS, Jan Lance, and husband, Tom, Hutchinson, KS, Teri Gouge, and husband, Kim, Lawrence, KS, and  Kristi D’Arcy, and husband Hamlet, Basel, Switzerland; seven grandchildren, Troy Fisher, Andrea Long, Adam and Adissyn Lance, Jordan and Jarad Gouge, and Stella D’Arcy; five great grandchildren, Hayden, Cassie, Averi, Jalyn, and Grady; one brother, Merlyn Sherman, Cushing, OK; three sisters, Faye Kraft, Gridley, KS, Carol Parr, Cherokee, OK, and Myrna Singeree, Wichita, KS.  

The family will receive friends from 3 – 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to a Charity of Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    I’m so sorry for the lose of Don. He was a very special man and he will be missed. Don was always kind and so much fun to play golf with. It was a pleasure to know him.

    It is sad to have another cousin pass away. The Sherman and Huffman kids spent a lot of hours playing together! Jack and Don bowled together in Kiowa many years ago. Our thought are with you Ethyl, your girls and grandchildren. Sorry, we won’t be there with you.

    It is with heavy hearts that we express our sorrow to Ethel and family for the lost of Don. Kerry and I remember him fondly as a great neighbor. We saw the love and pride he felt for his family and know this must be a diffcult time for you all. You are all in our thoughts.
