Funeral services for Diane Lynn Gillespie, 52, Merriam, KS will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009 at the Grainfield United Methodist Church in Grainfield, KS. Burial will follow in the Grainfield Cemetery. She died on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
She was born on June 4, 1956 in Quinter, KS, the daughter of William D. & Beulah Maddox Gillespie.
Ms. Gillespie was a contract specialist for Social and Rehabilitation Services in Kansas City, KS for 30 years. She also worked part-time for CVS Pharmacy.
She was a 1974 graduate of Wheatland High School in Grainfield, KS and a 1978 graduate of Kansas State University. She was a member of the KSU Alumni Association.
She was a member of the Birthday Club and was also a teddy bear collector.
Survivors include: her mother, Beulah Gillespie of Grainfield, three brothers; Kim and wife, Gloria Gillespie of Roscoe, TX, Terry Gillespie of Ulysses, KS, Mark and wife, Brenda Gillespie of Sevierville, TN. Four nephews also survive her: Kevin and wife, Melissa Gillespie, Corey Gillespie, Matthew Stranghoner and Jimmy (wife Jackie) Griffin. Her father and a brother, Gail Gillespie, preceded her in death.
The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel and from noon – 1:30 p.m. Friday, at the church in Grainfield.
The family suggests memorials in her name to the Grainfield United Methodist Church or to the Grainfield Opera House Restoration Project and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
The family would like to thank Diane’s friends and co-workers for their help and concern after the accident.
