Funeral service for Betty Jean Gabriel, 78, Fort Worth, Texas will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary- Eudora Chapel. Mrs. Gabriel died in her sleep, February 16, 2010, in Fort Worth, Texas after a long illness with Alzheimer’s.
She was born May 4, 1931 in Eudora, Kansas, the daughter of Howard and Irene Caviness. She graduated from Eudora High School.
She married Gayle A. Gabriel on January 26, 1951. They had one son, Darryl Lynn, in Oceanside, CA during Gayle’s US Marine service to our military. They returned home to Lawrence, KS where they made their home. Betty was employed by Sanders Motor Company until her retirement. Betty and Gayle were both members of the First Methodist Church in Lawrence, KS.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother and loving grandmother of four grandsons, Jon Patrick Gabriel and Matthew Gayle Gabriel and step grandsons, Michael E. Lyons and Sean R. Lyons. She had two great granddaughters, Brooke and Devyn Lyons. Darryl and his family are currently living in Argyle, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gayle, January 10, 1996. She is survived by her sister, Doris Schehrer of Eudora, KS and many nieces and nephews for whom she had great affection.
Her compassion and gentle heart will be missed by all her family.
The family suggests memorial contributions in her name to the Alzeheimer’s Association and be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time at the Eudora Chapel.
