Funeral services for Dr. Beate Mocek, 48, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. A memorial service is being planned later in Krefeld, Germany. She died July 8, 2010 at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. She had moved to Lawrence in January of 2008.
She was born March 16, 1962 in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany, the daughter of Horst-Manfred Mocek and Lieselotte Coers.
Dr. Mocek was a Research Associate with the Geology Department for the University of Kansas.
She was a member of Deutsche Mineralogische Gesellschaft, Geological Society of America and Geochemical Society.
She married Dr. Andreas Möller on July 31, 1998 in Sydney, Australia. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include her parents, of Krefeld, Germany, and a sister, Renate Arnold of Oerlinghausen, Germany.
In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a memorial scholarship in Germany and donations at this point may be sent in care of the mortuary.

Trauerfeierlichkeiten für Dr. Beate Mocek, 48, Lawrence, KS, finden am Mittwoch 14. Juli 2010 um 16 Uhr im Bestattungsinstitut Warren-McElwain in Lawrence statt. Eine Trauerfeier und die Beerdigung sind später in Krefeld, Deutschland, geplant. Beate starb am 8. Juli 2010 in der Universitätsklink von Kansas in Kansas City, Kansas. Sie war im Januar 2008 aus Deutschland nach Lawrence umgezogen.
Beate wurde am 16. März 1962 in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Deutschland, geboren als Tochter von Horst-Manfred Mocek und Lieselotte Coers.
Dr. Mocek war wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Institut für Geologie der Universität von Kansas.
Sie war Mitglied der Deutschen Mineralogischen Gesellschaft, der Geological Society of America und der Geochemical Society.
Sie heiratete Dr. Andreas Möller am 31. Juli 1998 in Sydney, Australien.
Zu den Hinterblieben gehören ihr Ehemann, ihre Eltern, Krefeld, Deutschland, und ihre Schwester, Renate Arnold in Oerlinghausen, Deutschland.
Anstelle von Blumen, wünscht sich die Familie die Einrichtung eines Gedenkstipendiums in Deutschland. Spenden fur diesen Zweck können zu diesem Zeitpunkt an das Bestattungsinstitut gesendet werden.

Ich möchte Ihnen mein tiefes Beileid aussprechen.
Beate und ich haben zusammen in Hannover studiert, und dort gemeinsam die Höhen und Tiefen des Schreibens unserer Dissertationen bewältigt.
Danach haben wir uns aus den Augen verloren, aber die Erinnerung an diese gute, ereignisreiche Zeit mit Beate bleibt.

Andreas, mit Entsetzen und großer Traurigkeit habe ich von Eurem Schicksal erfahren. Obwohl ich Beate nur wenige Male getroffen habe, am MPI und auf Tagungen wie zuletzt in Vancouver, mochte ich sie sehr.
