Arlis Allen

 

Funeral service for Arlis Allen, 81, Eudora, will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2009, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary—Eudora Chapel.  Interment will follow at the Eudora Cemetery.  He died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Golden Living Center, Pittsburg, KS.

He was born August 22, 1928, in Mountain View, AR, the son of Alex and Mannie Lee (Calhoon) Allen.

Mr. Allen served in the U.S. Army during WW II with the 346 Combat Infantry and was in Germany and the European Theater.  He moved to Eudora in the 1950’s from Mountain View, Arkansas.  He worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant for five years.  Mr. Allen worked as a machinist at the Delco Battery plant for 31 years.  He retired in 1990.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church and also a member of UAW for 31 years.

He married Lola Frances Blevins on December 24, 1955, in Lawrence, KS.  She preceded him in death on January 24, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, David Arlis and Gerald “Jerry” Ray, both of Eudora; one brother, Bob Allen of Tipton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Parker Don Laws, Shelby Denielle Allen, Hailey Marie Allen, and Jenna Norene Allen.  He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Eudora Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation and sent in care of the mortuary.
