A Memorial for Dr. Anthony Genova will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Alumni Association on the campus of the University of Kansas (1266 Oread Avenue, Lawrence, KS 66047. Phone: 785.864.9774).
A scholarship fund for graduate students in the University of Kansas Philosophy Department has also been established, entitled "The Genova Fund for Graduate Students in Philosophy" (fund #39832). Tony was a wonderful person with whom I was privileged to share philosophy, campus politics, and life. I will be forever grateful for being able to know and work with him. My thoughts are with you, Roni.
Dr. Genova was a mentor and friend. His warm personality, good humor and great intellect enabled him to achieve much of value to us all. I wish he could have been here longer. I will miss him.
Tony was an excellent philosopher, with a powerful mind, a great sense of humor, and a huge heart. His loss will be felt for years to come. He also played a significant role in my meeting my partner, Teresa Robertson, who loved him dearly.
My hat is off to Tony.
Tony supported me extremely strongly both in word and deed throughout my time at KU and even before my arrival. My debts to Tony both personal and professional are many and great. I will miss him terribly.
It’s difficult for me to conceive of philosophy at all without Tony. His mind was deep and sharp, and from it I learned much/most of the philosphy I know. He, for me, as I know is true for others, was a mentor. What’s more, I considered him a good friend. This I know to be true for many others as well. His personality was genuine, and it impacted everyone/anyone around him. I have taken great pride in my feeling that he liked me and respected me.
He’s the reason I study philosophy. I am still learning from him and the documents that he gave me.
I was a student at Wichita State when Tony Genova arrived, and had several classes with him. He set a very high standard for deep, open and eclectic thinking. He was decent and friendly man… and the only one in the department to beat ME at darts!
As a student at Wichita State, I worked for Dr. Genova in his Philosophy Dept office on campus. He was smart, kind, caring, generous and funny – a very special and wonderful person to be around.
