Ursula Christa Rosemarie Stammler died Sunday, February 27th, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. She was 88 years old.
Ursula was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 18th, 1933 to Konrad and Theresa Hofmann. When she was very young the family returned to Germany and remained there until soon after the end of WWII. The family, which now included her brother Ulrich and sister Ulrike, moved to Brazil where her parents owned a coffee farm in the interior. Ursula attended high school at the American School in Rio de Janeiro. She then attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and graduated with a degree in Political Science.

While attending college she met Heinrich A. Stammler. They married on January 23rd, 1960 and subsequently moved to Lawrence. She raised her children, Andrea and Christopher, teaching them German and instilling in them a love of nature.

In 1978 Ursula accepted a job at the KU School of Architecture. She was given a roomful of boxes of slides and tasked with building a library. Her thoroughness and attention to detail made the library an outstanding resource for staff and students alike. She went on to add the Hatch Reading Room to the library and retired after 25 years.

Ursula loved hiking and especially her garden. She sought beauty wherever she went.

She leaves behind her daughter Andrea Lewis (Patrick), her son Christopher Stammler (Katie), her grandchildren Annika, Aidan, and Elijah, her brother Ulrich, her sister Ulrike, her nephews Chris and Mathias, and niece Johanna.
