Memorial Mass for Joseph Perez Soza, 87, Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence. Joseph passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at his home with his loved ones present.
Joseph was born on February 3, 1936 in Dodge City, KS, the son of Cruz Sosa and Jenny Sanchez.
He worked for the United States Postal Service until he retired.
He enjoyed the KU Jayhawks and Chiefs, collecting coins, sports memorabilia and enjoyed attending sporting events.
He married Janet Soza on March 23, 1960, and she preceded him in death on October 14, 1971.
He married Cheryl Sams at Sacred Heart Cathedral. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his daughter, Lisa (Mark) Grogan; son, Jerrod (Erika Cruz-De-Soza); eight grandchildren, Alex, Lindsay, Naya, Dustin, Josh, Levi, Luke, Zach; five great grandchildren, Mason, Isaiah, Jack, Marlow and Lucy; and siblings, Flora Leon, Connie Soza, Paul Soza, and Robert “Bob” Soza; a nephew, Chad Sams and daughter, Alyssa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Brian Christopher Soza and Joseph Scott Soza; and siblings, Mike Soza, Grace Carmona, Betty Martinez, Trudie Trent, and Emily Seacat; his in-laws, Lee Vernon and Alice Colleen Sams, and brother-in-law, Gary Lee Sams.

Cheryl I’m so sorry that Joe has passed. I keep thinking about all the fun we used to have dancing the night away. The time went so fast and I am so sorry for the pain of losing him brings. I hope Mony was waiting for him and they are having a great time together. Love you take care of yourself
So sorry to hear of Joe’s passing..i was fortunate enough to know this man and his family. Joe was an awesome person and loved his family. He will be missed. Big hugs for Cheryl, Lisa And Jerrod Cruz. Prayers uplifted for all the family and friends.
