Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Mitchell

Funeral services for Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Mitchell, 86, Lawrence will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will be receiving guests at the VFW Post 852, 1801 Massachusetts Street, Lawrence, Kansas 66044. She passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Elizabeth was born on September 21, 1932 in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Ethel (Husten) Dockery.

She was a homemaker and worked in the Lawrence High School Cafeteria. Betty was a life member of The Ladies Auxiliary Post 852 and a past secretary for many years and also served as the chaplain.

Betty as a young girl enjoyed traipsing in the woods with her father hunting and fishing.

She was an avid Chiefs, KU Basketball Fan and was known for waving her pom pom and cheering/cursing for her teams.

She married Merle Mitchell in Lawrence on January 23, 1958. He preceded her in death May 6, 1996.

Survivors include her daughters, Lisa Mitchell, Leslie Mitchell, Kelle Fritzel (Ben), Baldwin City, KS; brother, Robert Dockery, Kansas City, KS; three grandchildren Jacob, Josh (Amanda), Curtis (Sasha) Fritzel. She was also preceded in death by her son, David Mitchell.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
