Sam McNatt

 

Memorial service for Sam Brooks McNatt, 90, Lawrence will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.  Mr. McNatt died on November 10, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was a former resident of Wichita, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Houston, Texas and Pagosa Springs, Colorado.  Then he moved to Lawrence in 2006.

He was born on January 6, 1919 in Maury City, Tennessee the son of Sam C. and Jimmie Stallings McNatt.

He worked for Kewanee Oil Company for over 37 years.  He was a member of Boy Scouts of America, where he earned his Eagle Scout Award.  Later as a Scout Master, he received the Silver Beaver award.  He was also a member of Rotary in Pagosa Springs, Colorado where he received the Paul Harris Award.   He enjoyed camping, wood working, traveling in National Parks, and golfing. 

He served as a pilot trainer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a 1st Lieutenant. 

He married Ella Holt on December 29, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Jimmie Benedict and husband, Ron Phaneuf, Reno, Nevada, Sammie, and husband, Jeff Messick, Lawrence, Billie (Hegge), and husband, Ron DuVal, Wichita; one son, Sam Hugh McNatt, and wife Margo Bleasdale, Katy, Texas; six grandsons, Shane Benedict, Peter Benedict; Kelly Messick, Kevin Messick, Bryce McNatt, Gates McNatt; and nine great grand children.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Notley in 2002.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his name to Kansas Dialysis Services and sent in care of the mortuary.
