Brian graduated from Lawrence High School in 1981. He then started his career at the University of Kansas that spanned 40+ years, much of it working as a Safety & Security Supervisor with KU Public Safety. Following his retirement from Public Safety he returned to KU taking a position with Facilities Services Housekeeping. He considered all his co-workers his friends.
Brian enjoyed fishing and playing Pinochle with family. He was also an avid video gamer and Star Trek fan.
Brian was a long-time associate member of the Lawrence Fraternal Order of Police and a supporter of their Hunter Safety program.
Memorial contributions may be made in Brian’s name to Lawrence FOP Hunters Safety program and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
Brian had a non-ending quest for knowledge and understanding of the world that God placed him in. He had a unique way of verbalizing the “what if” situations often with a twist of humor and often included underlying truths that most people may have never entertained.
Brian loved to give and blessed many of us with his generosity and a “hug” instead of a handshake. Loyalty … is the character description of Brian that identifies the depth and strength of his spirit.
Brian wanted to write a book and he actually came close on his webpage where he writes it on our hearts to face life with inquisitive minds and face our disappointments with courage and belief to press on to better things on the horizon. We will miss Brian very much. We are blessed that he made us smile and touched so many hearts!
Prayers flow for healing of the family who have lost this loved one. We will see him again in eternity.
Marc, Donita and family, we send our sincere condolences and prayers your way. May angels surround you at this very difficult time and give you hope and comfort.
Gail, Marc and families, was sorry to hear of Brian(Barney’s) passing. Lived next to all of you on East 28 many years ago. I remembered him as very soft-spoken and sweet and an animal lover. I’m sure he will be missed.
