Teresa Pondrom

Mass of Christian Burial for Teresa Pondrom, 73, Lawrence, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.  Burial will be at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Teresa passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Homestead of Eudora. She battled severe Alzheimer’s the last several years of her life.

Teresa was born on February 22, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Lorenzo and Carmen Colon- Nieves. She was a homemaker most of her life and loved her time working as a teacher’s aide helping children learn to read.

She was a devout and faithful Catholic, a proud mother and grandmother, showed loving enthusiasm for her Puerto Rican heritage, and was an avid sports fan.

She shared 56 years of marriage with  Francis Phillip Pondrom. They were married on August 29, 1968 in Lawton, OK, living many years there before moving to Maryland and finally to Lawrence.

She is survived by her husband Francis, her daughters, Helen Strickland and her husband David, Andrea Houghton and her husband Jeremy, Kimberly Kinsfather and her husband Chris, her son Michael Pondrom and his husband Caleb Edison, her brother Francisco Colon, her sister Maria Stebbins and eight grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Timothy Pondrom, her brothers Rolando Colon and Rafael Nieves Colon, and her sister Nellie Elsa Addis.

Rosary and Visitation will be at 6 p.m. on Monday October 28, 2024 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. The family will also visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the church.

    Teresa was definitely a living, compassionate person..I lover her dearly, and will keep family in prayer! Ha so much fun..karoake!

    We came to know and love Theresa and Frank as wonderful friends. While the loss is devastating here, I’m ever thankful of a loving God and know she is whole and happy at his side. Prayers of comfort to the family as they navigate the days ahead.
