Mass of Christian Burial for Santos “Sonny” Garcia, 82, Topeka, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2022, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Santos passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka.
Santos was born on October 31, 1940 in Chanute, KS the son of Patricio and Rosa (Romero) Garcia.
He worked for Southern Star Natural Gas for 35 years.
He was a member of St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church; he was active in helping with St. John Fiesta. He volunteered to cut the grass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. He loved family gatherings and being with family. He enjoyed playing basketball and was on a bowling league.
He married Margaret Garcia on August 29, 1963, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lawrence. She survives of the home; they recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Other survivors include his brother, Bob Garcia; sisters, Luz (Lucy) Garcia, Irene Langford, Candace Crane of Lawrence and Sabina Vasquez of Vista, CA; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Jeffrey L. Garcia on September 1, 1998, and Brian M. Garcia on November 4, 2008; his sisters, Lupe Garcia, Mercedes Jaimez, Antonia Ramirez, and Juana (Jenny) Garcia and brothers, Andy Garcia, Sr, and John Garcia and nephew, Andy Garcia, Jr. and nieces, Patty Davison and Linda Benitez.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. prior to the visitation.
The family suggests memorials in Santos’ name to the Lawrence Humane Society or St. Johns Fiesta Scholarship or to Midland Care Hospice House and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
The family suggest casual dress for the services.

Uncle Sonny, and Margaret, you have Always been such a Delightful pair. Thank you for always smiling and showing me Love, when I saw you. The memories I have from seeing you two will Forever stay with me. GOD is Faithful to us, in good times, and in bad. Let our Faith be the thing that holds us together in this time. Let us rejoice and look forward to the next journey, where we may be reunited. Margaret, I pray that GODS LOVE, Support and Comfort you in this time of loss. I Love you much.
