Kenneth Wayne Snyder, 52, passed away September 19 2018 at his home in Lawrence, KS. He was born February 18, 1966 in Eureka, KS. He leaves his son, Michael Dominic Snyder and his ex-wife, Susan Taylor, of Park City, KS. Wife, Carolyn Mae Jones of the home. Parents, Gerald and Joan (Winzer) Snyder of Augusta, KS. Sister, Cynthia Snyder of Topeka. Aunts, uncles, and cousins also mourn the loss. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Marie Snyder and Harold and Thelma Winzer.
Ken attended Eureka Grade School, Augusta Garfield Grade School, Augusta Middle School and graduated from Augusta High School in 1985. He graduated from Butler County Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Welding and Art. He graduated from Kansas University receiving a BFA in Sculpture.
He was a Massage Therapist for over ten years in the Lawrence area, graduating from MTTI of Lawrence, specializing in chronic pain and scar tissue work. He helped countless clients.
He excelled in a wide variety of art from charcoal to metal. He has a Grizzly Bear on the Campus BCCC and a sculpture stands on the KU campus which he was a major builder of. He enjoyed teaching blacksmithing and archery, and making Damascus steel knives, chainmail, and armor.
Ken was loved by many family and friends. Carolyn always said “he was the sweetest man she ever met, so she married him.” When called upon by his friends, he was always there to help. He was referred to as the “Gentle Giant” as he was 6’5” or “The Wookie”.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be set up for his son, Michael Dominic Snyder at the White Eagle Credit Union, 2830 Ohio Street, Augusta, KS 67010.
Dear McElwain family, please accept my heartfelt condolences. May God give you strength, as we look forward to the day when our loved ones will awaken in the resurrection (John 5:28,29; Acts 24:15).
I am so very sorry for your loss.
One of the Bible scriptures that has kept me going is 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Cindy & family — Our hearts ache for you. The Snyder family is a rare breed of exceptional people. Ken’s absence from this earth will have a great effect on many. It is my prayer that everyone whose lives were touched by Ken or his contributions to the community will be inspired to share with others in their own ways, to pay it forward in his honor. Our love to you all.
Ken is always in our hearts as we recall his gentle and kind spirit. The gifts he shared with so many of us will last a lifetime. We have so much gratitude for the opportunity to have shared time with Ken.. Am holding the Snyder Family in loving grace, to surround, support and uplift you

I first met Ken when we work together at Lawrence Therapy Services. His talents and gifts as a healer struck me as amazing and I know he helped many people recover from significant chronic illnesses. He was a dear friend and I will miss him terribly. He had a generous, loving, and tender bear spirit.
Oh My! I am so sorry to lose such a wonderful friend. My heart goes out to Carolyn and Micky. Ken and I always shared about our families, and I know his deep love and devotion to both of you and for his parents also. Thankfully I was able to visit Ken last month on my trip from NC. We never know when it will be our last time to see anyone.
Ken has been a friend for many years. He helped me in every way that he could and received my help as well. He was an example of loving friendship in every way a person could be. I will miss you and my heart hurts to see you go much too soon.
I looked up to Ken. Not just because of our obvious height difference but because of how much good I saw in him. I think about our time together in massage school often and remember how remarkable ken was. He helped me, inspired me and was a true friend for me in a time of massive change in my life. missed he will be
