Funeral Mass for Tony Romero, 82, of Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas. He passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Tony was born May 28. 1936 in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Gonzalo and Avelina (Ramirez) Romero.
He married Ruth Martinez on June 23, 1956 in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives him.
Other survivors include his daughters; Rachel Romero, Deborah (Rick) Hermesch, Sara (Jess) Gamboa and Catherine Sloan, siblings; Alberta Guiterrez, Valentina Guerrero, Teresa Martinez, Phyllis Guiterrez, Peter Romero, Rickey Romero, Gonzalo Jr., Lorrie Alcala and Rebecca Stephens, eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Tony was preceded in death by his brothers; Guadalupe, Jose, Frank Romero, sister, Juanita Hernandez and four grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary starting at 6:00 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2018 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, Kansas.
His favorite pastimes included fishing, gardening, horseshoes, supporting the KC Royals, KC Chiefs and watching KU Basketball. He loved spending time with his family; especially playing with his great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
