Lowry F. “Andy” Anderson

Funeral services for Lowry “Andy” Anderson, 93, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 27, at First United Methodist Church, Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Lowry died May 23, 2015.

Lowry was born in Elsmore, Kansas, on August 27th, 1921 to Arthur Alexander Anderson and Media McWilliams Anderson. He graduated from Chanute High School in 1939, and from Chanute Junior College shortly thereafter. After serving his station in China during WWII, he returned to Lawrence and married Wanda Pearl Johnson. Together they had three children: Arthur, deceased, Lowry Jr, and Rebecca.

Lowry was employed with Southwest Bell Telephone Company for over 30 years. He was a member of Lawrence Lodge No. 6 A.F. & A.M, York Rite Body, a 50 year member of Abdallah Shrine Temple, Overland Park, KS. He was also a member of Lawrence Shrine Club, Life Member of the Order of High Priesthood of Kansas, Royal Arch Masons, Lawrence Chapter #4, Lawrence Council # 14, DeMolay C #4, V.F.W. Post 852, American Legion Post 14, and the Telephone Pioneers. He was a Charter Member of North American Fishing Club, and the Senior Sportsman Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dale; his four sisters, Lillian M Timmons, Cecil Benton, Nona Curtice and Velma Anderson; his wife Wanda, and their son, Arthur. In addition, he was preceded in death by wives Genevieve Landon Anderson and Grace Boyd Anderson.

He is survived by his son, Lowry Jr. of Overland Park, KS, and daughter Becky (Mere Marie Delores) of Notre Dame de l’Ecoute, Benin, Africa. Survived also by daughter-in-law Kathleen Anderson; and grandchildren Malisa Anderson-Strait and her husband Eric of Atlanta, GA; Sara of Overland Park, and Brad and his wife Maureen of Lawrence; as well as daughter-in-law Mary Anderson, and grandchildren John and Alex of Lawrence.

In addition, he is survived by his stepsons Tom, Bob and Andy Boyd; their wives Diane, Becky, and Shirley; their children Trisha, Michele, and Kylie; Barry and Robin; and Jack, Ross and Rachel.

Other survivors include sister-in-laws Wilda Schornick and Elsie Anderson, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or a charity of the donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
