To the family of Sylvia V. Samuel
Who among us does not know
The bittersweetness of death
Ohhh, the bitter taste of losing, one loved by us
To the pain and finality of death
Or the sweet taste of releasing, one loved by us
To the painless and sweet joys of everlasting life
To all who come out of love, honor, admiration, grief or respect
Grant, O Lord, that they may know
The great and loving grace of God
Made known to us through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
For it is here, at this hour
With peace to comfort you
Power to strengthen you
And divine insight
To help you celebrate
Yes, with joy and thanksgiving
The blessed homegoing of Sylvia Victoria Bastian Samuel
Respectfully submitted

To the family of our our neighbor, Sylvia Samuel:
We are so sorry we cannot be with you this week. Sylvia was the first person to welcome us to the neighborhood 40 years ago. She was the first person ever to ask me if I knew Christ as my Savior and that was the beginning of many good spiritual discussions over the years. She was so excited about the Lord. She had so much humor and taught me so much about life next door to the Samuel family, such as: the only good thing to eat has to be “barbeque;” the best way to go through life is to “laugh;” when you need help, call “Ray and Sylvia;” want to go to a great party? “get invited to the Samuel parties;” who had the best kids on the block, “the Samuel family.” We had so many conversations where I went away uplifted and ready to take on life again. Her life turned me into a believer of how black is white and white is black – I loved it. To all of you: Please know that I feel like I know each of you because she talked about you often, often – I am so sad at the loss of my two best neighbor friends in the world this past year. With tears and prayers for each of you as you travel on in life. May God go with you – that is how your dad and mother would want it. Love to each of you. Renita, Nino and family. I have just been able to actually sit and write a condolence. My husband Al Lewis talked with you Renita after your mother died. It was heart breaking. She kept me posted on her progress. I spoke with her up until about a week or so before her death. She had been so instrumental in our lives for over 30 years. Al officiated your brother Joe’s funeral in Las Vegas. I met you some years ago and have know Nino and his family for a long period of time. Sylvia was a beautiful woman inside and out. She certainly inspired myself and Al. I loved her spirit and if she needed to say something she would (smile) We visited she and Mr. Samuel a couple of times in Lawrence. Blessings to you all .
