Arden D. Burgess

A Celebration of Life for Arden D. Burgess, 88, Lawrence, KS will be held at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at West Side Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. He passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

Arden was born February 10, 1926 in Lawrence the son of Edwin T. and Helen E. Rohrer Burgess.

He served in the US Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the West Side Presbyterian Church. A member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 55 and was a charter organization representative for the Boy Scouts.

He was a Typesetter and camera operator for the Lawrence Journal World in Lawrence until he retired in 1997.

He married Donna Jean Carpenter on November, 1949 in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Leilani Burgess, Lawrence, Jeanne Johnson, Dayton, OH; and two grandchildren, Tyler Burgess and Channing Burgess; step-brother, Ben Kowing. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin R. Burgess and William “Bill” J. Burgess.

The family will greet friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at West Side Presbyterian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 55 and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    To The Burgess Families,
    It Comes With My Great Regret To Learn Of The Passing Of a Very Great Man, Father, Uncle & Sincere Friend To Many.
    This Man Lived Life To The Fullest and Was a Great Inspirational Teacher To So Many Young And Old.
    RIP Arden~ God Needed a Great Right Hand Man.

    I was sorry to hear of Mr. Burgess’ passing. I remember his as a very kind and patient man (and a good cook–especially impressive for a time when few men cooked!) I am sorry for your loss and hope your memories of good times sustain you as you grieve.
