Memorial services for Julie Lynn (Purcell) Smith, 42, Eudora will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel. She died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Hickory Pointe in Oskaloosa.
Julie was born August 24, 1971 in Lawrence, KS the daughter of Roger Dale and Cathy Lynn (Liston) Purcell.
She was a medical assistant.
Survivors include her parents, Roger, St. Joseph, MO and mother, Cathy, Eudora; one son, Trevor Shepley, Lawrence; and one brother, Mark (Tonya) Purcell, Eudora; one nephew, Gage Purcell; and one niece, Devin Purcell.
The family suggests memorials in her name to Julie (Purcell) Smith Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
Julie was such a sweet/kind gal. Always a smile on her face. Helping her mother seemed more important to her than her own health issues. She lived such a long battle but now is a free spirit~ one that too many will miss! We will so miss that beautiful smile & kind heart of hers! Love you Julie hon~until we meet again <3
Mark and Tonya- I am so sorry to hear about Julie’s passing. She was one of my all time favorites at the Kwik Shop. I will keep you both in my prayers as you go through this difficult time.

My sister julie was the most caring women in the world. Help anyone who needed it and taught great morals to my nephew and i. She lost her life way to early but god has a plan for her. Im gona miss her more than words can explain.
I didn’t know Julie as an adult but I am sure she was just as sweet as she was as a child. I was very close to her mother, Cathy, for many years when Julie and Mark were young. I have many fond memories of her from those years. From what I hear she fought so hard while she was sick which doesn’t surprise me because I was there when she recovered from a horrible car accident when she was a teenager. She is one tough young lady. My thoughts and prayers go out to Cathy, Mark and the rest of the family. My heart breaks for you. I can only imagine what she must be experiencing in heaven right now. God is taking care of her now.

Sweet Julie – my good friend when we were in junior high. We moved away and I’ve never forgotten her. I am so sorry and I hope God can comfort you all during this painful time.

Julie was one of those rare, exceptional people whom you never forgot upon meeting. She generated such a loving and positive spirit, you couldn’t help but want to spend more time with her. Her genuine compassion and desire to help any and everyone beamed so brightly in her actions and conversations with others. What I will remember most is the sincere love and kindness in her eyes. I never heard Julie speak negatively about any anyone…that was not in her spirit. The amount of time I spent with Julie was minimal (mostly running across each other by chance) in Eudora, however, each visit was meaningful to me. I always walked away feeling appreciated, cared about, and with a smile in my heart. I hope all those suffering the loss of Julie know that not one minute of her short time here was squandered. Her moments here brought and taught love, joy, hope, comfort, laughter, courage, respect, and peace to many others: the impact of which is immeasurable.
I was fortunate to meet Julie some 20+ years ago as friends which then we became “family” through having babies with brothers. Even though we didn’t stay in constant contact over the years any time I saw or talked to Julie on the phone she was very warm and welcoming to me and my girls that she didn’t really know. She would always tell me that she loved me and my girls and that made my heart warm. My heart breaks for her family! I will always cherish the memories I have of her!
