Memorial mass for John Joseph “Jack” Connolly, 79, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. He died Monday September, 23, 2013 surrounded by his family at his home.
Jack was born December 23, 1933 in Cincinnati, OH the son of John J. and Frances (Koetters) Connolly.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict. He served in Germany, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1985 with the rank of Colonel.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 – American Legion.
He married Theresa A. Shen on April 28, 1956 in Ft. Sill, OK. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mary Wooding (David), Wichita, KS, Donna Hultine (Michael), Sheila Connolly (Suzanne Morrissey), both of Lawrence; two sons, John P. Connolly (Steve Maceli), Lawrence, Michael Connolly (Tamy Harmon), Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren, David, Jr. Katie, Laurie, Christopher, Jake; and one sister, Sister Mary Ann Connolly, O.P., Columbus, OH. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Connolly.
The family will greet friends from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in his name to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Rehabilitation and Hospice Care that may be sent in care of the mortuary.

You were truly one of the “good guys” in this world. I feel privileged to have known and worked with you for a few years. You will be GREATLY missed.

Condolences to those he left behind. A perfect example of the “greatest generation” Having worked with Jack I will miss the man as well as his counsel.
Sorry for your loss. I read his obituary in the West Valley View newspaper in Arizona. I went to St Mary’s school in Urbana Ohio with a John Connolly. He had an older brother James and 2 sisters that became nuns. By any chance is this the John I knew?
