Funeral services for Robert Francis Beguelin, 84, Lawrence, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence at a later date. He died on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, NE.
Robert was born on January 5, 1929 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Harry E. and Bertha K. (Lombard) Beguelin.
Robert graduated in 1946 from Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence, KS. He attended Kansas University and graduated in 1950 with a BS in Education with an emphasis in Math. Although he completed his degree to teach, he began working for Gamble-Skogmo Inc., then Our Own Hardware for 45 years until he retired in 1992.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence.
Robert married Margaret J. Smith on June 24, 1951. She preceded him in death on August 10, 1991. He then married Donna Mae Hornberger on June 3, 1994 in Lawrence. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2012.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara (Ace) Kluver of Hastings, NE; one son, Robert (Linda) Beguelin of Joy, IL; five grandchildren, Christopher Goedert, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Bell, Ellen Beguelin, Daniel Beguelin, Taylor Beguelin; three great grandchildren, Baily Cantrell, Sadye Bell and Bradyn Bell; brother Les Beguelin of Topeka; three step children, Ellen (Gary) Bartz of Lawrence, Gayle (Greg) Daniels of Topeka, KS, Ann Rogers of Stilwell, KS; four step grandchildren, James Brown, Jr, Garrett Daniels, Marlee Rogers, and Mitchell Rogers. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Amy Katherine Beguelin.
The family will greet friends on Sunday, prior to the service, from 2-3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church for Scholarships towards Summer Camp or LMH Oncology and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
