Funeral services for John Stark Adams, Sr. 83, Lawrence, KS will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. He died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at his home.
He was born February 19, 1930 in Atchison, KS the son of Vivian “Jack” and Marcia Mildred (Jones) Adams.
He was a utility supervisor for Kansas Power and Light for 40 years, retiring in 1991. Prior to that he drove livestock and grain trucks and ran projectors at a movie theater in Mathis, TX.
He was a founding member of Lawrence Heights Christian Church, as well as a member of De Soto Baptist Church. He also served as Merit Badge Counselor and Assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America. He loved to read western books and photograph family events. He also loved music, KU Basketball and NASCAR, as well as volunteer work at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. But above all, he loved his family, and cherished the tractor rides he took them on.
He was married to Naomi “Toni” Lee Faulk on November 13, 1950 in Topeka, KS. She preceded him in death March 28, 2009.
Survivors include one son, John Adams Jr. and his wife, Susie, Virginia Beach, VA; one daughter, Gwendy and husband, Robert Olivarez of De Soto, KS; one sister, Cheril Hefner; grandchildren, John (Renee) Adams III; Courtney (Steve) Otter; Casey (Charlie) Fitzgerald; Carey (Scott) Hass; Emilia (Angelo) Moraitis; Alicia (Patrick) Smith; Peter (Vero) Olivarez; Nicholas Olivarez; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Carl (Ruth) Faulk, Bill (Phyllis) Faulk and Bud Faulk, as well as many nieces and nephews, including special nephew Joe (Katie) Faulk. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Toni; sister, Marcia Kimmel; and granddaughter, Shelly Adams.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in care of the mortuary.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle John. My heart goes out to Gwendy, John, their spouses and the grandchildren that were so special to him. Prayers from my family and my little mommy Ruth Ann.
