The Mass of Christian Burial for Danny L. Lucas, 75, Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in SW Wichita, KS. He died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at his home.
He was born on June 12, 1937 in Riverdale, KS, the son of Gordon and Muriel (Masterson) Lucas.
Danny was in the Kansas National Guard from 1954 – 1957.
He worked as a farmer and stockman in Sumner County for 44 years before moving from Wellington, KS in 2002 to Lawrence, where he managed Rock Chalk Carwash for several years.
He was a member of Happy Times Square Dance Club, Lawrence, and a member of Douglas County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Lawrence and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Wellington, KS. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
He married Elizabeth (Betty) Metzen on April 3, 1956 in Wellington, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Julie Manning, and husband, Danny, Tulsa, OK, Janice Horsch, and husband, Terry, Wellington, KS; one son, Jerry Lucas, and wife, Mary Ann, Wichita, KS; eight grandchildren, Bryanna Spafford, Staci Reuter, Jessica Lucas, Spencer Furman, Nic Lucas, Mary Lucas, Taylor Manning, Evan Manning, seven great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley Ward, Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Lucas.
A parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with visitation following until 7:30 p.m.
The family suggests memorials in his name to Corpus Christi Catholic Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
