Funeral services for John R. (aka JR, Stan, or Buzz) Standing, 102, Lawrence, KS, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. He died on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
He was born on July 10, 1910 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Ralph E. & Clara Davis Standing.
He was a 1936 graduate of Kansas University with a B.A. in Entomology.
During the 1950’s, John was the manager of the Douglas County Hatchery and Feed store in Lawrence. In conjunction with the hatchery, he was a real estate broker for Standing’s Farm Agency, where he sold farm property.
He was married to Alyce E. Zook on June 26, 1936 in Lawrence, KS. They later divorced. She survives of Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
Survivors include two sons, Jon D. Standing, of Lawrence, Steven E. (wife, Cheryl Bowman) Standing, of Lawrence, a sister, Mary Evelyn Stous, of Yorba Linda, CA, and two grandsons, Jeffrey Standing and Barry Flanagan.
The family will greet friends following the service. He will lie in state on Monday from noon until 9:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Trinity In-Home Care and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
John & Steve accept our sympathy in the death of your Dad. He was a good neighbor to mother all those years they lived on Indiana. I know you will miss him, just remember all the fun times you had with him. Bob’s mother and he were cousins.
