James Baskins

Funeral services for James Dean Baskins, 73, Baldwin City, will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.  Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.  He died October 15, 2012 at Baldwin Healthcare.

He was born February 11, 1939 in Windsor, MO the son of Frankie Dean and Chloe (Hunt) Baskins.

He worked in heating and cooling for many years retiring from Lennox Heating & Air.

He served his country in the Army National Guard of Missouri. He was a member of the NRA and Pheasants Forever.  He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

He married Darlene Hager on July 25, 1957 in Calhoun, MO.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Carmen (Gil) Barela, Denver, CO; Jami (Mike) Thompson, Baldwin City, KS; a sister, Marilyn Young, Pleasant Hill, MO; two brothers, Roy Baskins, Independence, MO; Donald Baskins, Springfield, MO; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Darren in 1997 and Justin in 2011 and one grandchild.

The family suggests memorials in his name to Baldwin Healthcare Center and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

The family will greet friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary.

    I worked with Jim & Roy for a long time at Lennox Industries. He was a good man and we had some great times as a group at Lennox. Jim knowledge of HVAC was second to none. My Prayers and Thoughts go out to Jim’s Family

    I wear his hat every year I hunt phesant in Western Kansas. It’s always on my wall as a reminder. I’m glad to have met you and talked guns. Thanks Jim
