Carole Elizabeth Files Dibben, 68, Lawrence, lost her life Sunday after a long but courageous battle with cancer.
She was born to Charles and Ladine Files Oct. 4, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo. Carole graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School and attended Baker University on an academic scholarship for three years before graduating from Emporia State College with a bachelors degree.
She married David Lee Dibben of Junction City, KS, and taught in the Shawnee Mission School District for four years before pausing her career to raise their three sons. Years later she returned to college and received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Emporia State. Carole will be remembered for her continual positive attitude especially in some difficult times.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant daughter, Kathleen Elizabeth Dibben. Carole is survived by her sister Gail Files Duke of Mesquite Nevada; three sons and their families, Jake and Monica Dibben, Lawrence; Eric Dibben, Destin, FL; Clint and Caralee Dibben, Layton, UT, and three grandchildren, Craig, Savannah and Joseph Dibben. She also leaves her close friends Eleanor Cowell, Topeka, and Janet Lewallen, Colorado.
A celebration of Carole’s life will be for friends and family at 7 p.m., Saturday (July 7) at her cousin’s vineyard, BlueJacket Crossing, Eudora, KS. Services will be 11 a.m., Sunday (July8) at Warren-McElwain Mortuary; burial will follow in Hesper-Friends Cemetery, Eudora. Memorials are suggested to nationalbreastcancer.org.
It was a pleasure to get to work with Carole at the library. She was always fun to be around, and had such a great laugh. She’ll be missed for sure. My condolences go out for her entire family.
Dear Jake and Family:

Carole was a delightful co-worker & friend. As a Mary Kay consultant, I enjoyed getting to spend time with Carole after her retirement on numerous occasions. Her intelligence, competence & spirit are the memories I will cherish. My deepest sympathy to you all.
Ms. Dibben was my teacher at Shawnee Mission North High School during my senior year, 1970. My father was quite ill with cancer when she was my teacher, and one day, she let me know she cared about me, even tho she did not know why I was sad. After my father passed away a few weeks after graduation, I received a card from her, where she quoted Kahil Gibron. I neveer told her how much her gesture meant to me then, or now…that one act got me through a very difficult time. May you rest in peace, Ms. Dibben!
This event and the service escaped my attention until just now. I am so very very sorry that the world lost such a wonderful woman and a good & selfless soul.
