Cremation is planned for Michael Lewis Carnahan, 67, Lawrence. A private inurnment will be held at Corinth Cemetery in Prairie Village, KS. He died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Charity of Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
I had the good fortune to work with Mike in Surgery at Lawrence Memorial. Although we did not stay in touch much after his retirement, we would see one another in town and extend a warm greeting. Mike always had a story to tell about a personal or work related experience and he could always make myself and my coworkers laugh. I appreciated his expertise. Those of us that had worked with Mike, thought of and spoke of him often. I was so sorry to learn of his passing. My condolences go to his family.

My deepest sympathy to Mike’s family! We met in 1981 at Ft Eustis,VA where we were stationed and remained friends since that time! He was a special friend and I remember him fondly! I will miss our phone chats and seeing him from time to time. I am saddened and shocked at his untimely death. The memories we shared over the years will take on a more special meaning! Until we are united one day in Christ, may you rest in peace Michael!
I was so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. We were stationed in Germany together from 1976 to 1979. I took him to the airport to return home that summer. We were good friends while we were in Germany and I looked fwd to receiving his Christmas card every year. I was always so amazed that he wrote each one rather than sending a blanket Christmas letter. He was a terrific person, a great Army Nurse and a true friend. He will be missed.
Mike and I were college roommates throughout most of our K.U. years. He stood up with me when Kathy and I married in 1966. He had been a life long friend and we touched base from time to time. We missed his Christmas card this year which led us to find that Mike had left us. Kathy and I loved Mike – we will miss him dearly.
Mike was an OR tech in Vietnam,when I was a 1st LT.We kept in touch over the years and I was so happy to see him as an Army Nurse. He was a great guy and I always enjoyed his Christmas letter. He will be greatly missed.
