The Mass of the Christian Burial for Evelyn D. Schmidtberger, 59, Lawrence, KS will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Lawrence. She died on Monday, January 10, 2011 at her home.
She was born on June 1, 1951 in Denver, Colorado the daughter of Joseph and Leona Larvie Velasquez.
Mrs. Schmidtberger was employed as a senior administrative associate at the School of Business at the University of Kansas.
She was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Alvamar Women’s Golf Association and the Empty Nester Group at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
She married Gary Schmidtberger in Denver, Colorado. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include; two daughters, Kristine Vogt, and husband, Mark, Lenexa, KS, and Karen Ingersoll, and husband, Jason, Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren, Aaron, Luke, and Ryan Vogt, and Makayla Ingersoll.
The Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The family will greet friends until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the University of Kansas School of Business, Financial Unit and the Empty Nesters Group at the church..

I am so sorry to hear about Evelyn. I was shocked when I read it in the paper. I have wonderful memories of grade school and spending lots of time with all of you. Please know that my families thoughts and prayers are with you guys.
You have been in our thoughts and prayers. So glad you were able to all be together with Evelyn over the weekend. Evelyn was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Though she was strong, it’s good to know her pain is gone. Our deepest sympathy to you all.

Evelyn, my niece-in-law, was a beautiful example of a loving wife and mother and a devoted grandmother. As grandparents ourselves, my husband and I are so sorry that her opportunity to love her grandchildren was cut short. Our hearts go out to the family.
