Funeral service for Samuel Lee Lewis, 72, Lawrence will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Worden United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Worden Cemetery. Mr. Lewis died August 30, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 28, 1938 in Senatobia, Mississippi the son of Arnot Lee and Mary Frances Brandon Lewis.
He retired on November 30, 1977 as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force and served during Vietnam.
He was a member of the Worden United Methodist Church, VFW in De Soto, Dorsey-Liberty Post #14, American Legion, Mt. Oread Aerie #309, FOE, and the disabled American Veterans.
He Retired from The University of Kansas in 2005 from the Department of Housing Ekdahl Dining Services.
He married Coleen Breithaupt on November 27, 1999 in Lawrence, Kansas. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include seven daughters, LuAnn Lewis, and partner, Bridgett, Topeka, Frances Paap, and husband, Keith, Excelsior, MN, Terry Alkire, Coon Rapids, MN, Kathryn Cummins, Oskaloosa, KS, Tamra Weems, and husband, Mark, Ozawkie, KS, Jamie Mann, Lawrence, KS, Shannon Mann, and husband, Brad, Kansas City, MO; ten grandchildren, Cassie, Vinnie, McKenzie, Sam, Easton, Kristopher, Brandon, Landon, Chloe, and Braxton; one sister Barbara J. Barnes, Inverness, FL; four brothers, Alfred L. Lewis, South Haven, MS, Phillip W. Lewis, Senatobia, MS, Robert P. Lewis, South Haven, MS, Richard L. Lewis, Arkabutla, MS; and was preceded in death by one grandson, Kevin Christopher, January, 1988.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to American Cancer Society or the VFW in De Soto and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
The family will greet friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

I would like to send our condolences and prayers to the family. We send love, peace and prayers to all. In our younger years we all were close and always enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with all our Aunts, Uncle and cousins.
