Graveside services for Gertrude “Gertie” K. Halberg, 104, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Galva East Cemetery in Galva, Iowa.
Mrs. Halberg died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Dec. 25, 1904, in Galva, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Marie Andersen Larsen. She graduated from Galva High School.
She worked for more than 30 years as a stenographer for the Douglas County Local Selective Service Draft Board, where she was also a personal secretary to Dr. Phog Allen. She retired in the 1960s. In her early career, Mrs. Halberg played the piano for the silent movies in Iowa.
Mrs. Halberg was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a longtime KU basketball and football season ticket holder. She also enjoyed gardening and playing the piano.
She married Leslie L. Halberg on Aug. 13, 1928, in Independence, Mo. He preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1980.
Mrs. Halberg was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Carlberg, and her brothers, Evans Larsen, Earl Larsen and James Larsen.
Survivors include three nieces, Genevieve Black Garcia, Bull Shoals, Ark., Lorraine Willard, Ames, Iowa, and Toni Jager, Topeka; two nephews, Donald Larsen, Storm Lake, Iowa, and Charles Larsen, Le Mars, Iowa.
The family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
