Funeral services for Len E. (John) Bogart Jr., 82, Lawrence, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, November 23, at Prairie Mound Cemetery, Solomon, KS. He died November 18, 2009, at Pioneer Ridge in Lawrence, KS.
He was born April 11, 1927, in Abilene, KS the son of Len Everett and Emma M. (Brickei) Bogart.
Mr. Bogart attended Abilene schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1945. He later attended the University of Kansas. Mr. Bogart served his country during World War II in the Army. He spent 11 years with the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., in Abilene, Holton and Lawrence, KS. For four years, he was branch manager for Western & Southern Life Insurance Co. in Hutchinson, KS. Mr. Bogart spent 30 years with The Stanley Works of New Britain, CT as a manufacturer’s representative in their education department.
He was a life member of the Holton Masonic Lodge and a member of the American Legion, Dorsey-Liberty Post #14. Mr. Bogart was an active member of Bethany Park Christian Church where he served in many offices, including Chairman of the Board. In his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Center and ushering at the Lied Center.
Mr. Bogart married Edith Grace Godfrey on December 7, 1947, at the First Christian Church in Abilene, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael L. and his wife, Susan, Tonganoxie, KS and Jon (Jay) and wife, Martha, Spring Hill, KS; three grandchildren, Justin and wife, Kim, Shawnee, KS, Joel and Kathrine of Lawrence; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 20, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. The family will also greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Martin–Becker–Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund and sent in care of the mortuary.
