Funeral Services for ELMER ROBERT JOHANNING, 91, Lawrence, Ks. will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mr. Johanning died Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Medical Center in Topeka.
Elmer was born April 29, 1918 in Worden, Kansas, the son of Otto L. and Ottilie L. Schaake
Johanning.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a farmer and implement dealer. He farmed in Kanwaka Township. Elmer was the co-owner of Johanning Implement, Inc., a Case dealership, until it’s closing in 1986.
He was a member of the Power of the Past-Antique Tractor Club and the Case Heritage Eagle Club. Elmer was known as “The Case Man”.
He married Thelma B. Northcutt in Kansas City, KS, on February 14, 1953. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1998.
He is survived by: a daughter, Mary and her husband, Richard Wakeman, Lawrence, Ks., a son, Robert and his wife, Jolynn Johanning, Olathe, KS; two brothers, Harold “Zeke” and Glenn both of Lawrence, Ks.; and grandchildren, Curtis, Joanna and Stuart Wakeman, Daniel Johanning, Jacquelynn, Sophia and Julian Neat. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Penny in 2006.
The family will greet friends from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Memorials in his name may be made to Douglas County 4-H Foundation Scholarship fund or to the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Medical Center in Topeka and sent in care of
the mortuary.
