Private family services for Richard Garrett Keegan, 83, Lawrence will be held at
a later date.
He died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Richard was born May 8, 1925 at Denver, CO, the son of William Garrett and
Emily Marie Perkins Keegan.
He attended Denver East High School where he was in the Drum and Fife Corps.
He graduated in three years from Denver University.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was wounded at Leyte Gulf in the
Philippines and received the Purple Heart.
He was an IRS agent for 33 years, retiring in 1980. He also owned Kaw Valley Films and
Keegan Accounting.
He enjoyed model railroading, playing golf, RVing and was an avid bridge player.
He was a Catholic.
Richard married Mary Jane Morford on March 16, 1947, she preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 2005.
Survivors include: three daughters: Linda Diane Dirks, Taunton, MA, Christine
Wierman, Minneapolis, MN, Debbie Schmidt, Lawrence, KS; one son Garrett, Canon City, CO.; six grandchildren, Kristin Dirks, Samantha Reid, Molly Wierman, Amanda Schmidt, Mitchell Keegan and Grant Keegan and two great grandchildren, Nathan Reid and Gabriel Bunch. He was preceded in death by an infant son Patrick and a granddaughter, Melissa Wierman.
