Richard Brown

Memorial service for Richard Arlyn Brown, 81, Lawrence, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.  Private burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.  He died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born on October 19, 1927, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the son of Irwin A. and Edna L. (Huddleston) Brown.

 

He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1945, and received his BA Degree from the University of Kansas in 1950.  He served in Korea with the 7th Infantry Division Signal Company as a radio operator during the Korean War.  He continued his interest in radio as an Amateur Radio operator.  He worked as a Technical Writer for Wilcox Electric/Northrup Corp., in Kansas City, MO.  Later he worked for Capitol Federal Savings in Lawrence, retiring in 1992.

 

Mr. Brown was a former member of the Douglas County Amateur Radio Club, the ARC of Douglas County and was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence.

 

He married Justyn Elliott on March 28, 1951, in Lawrence.  She survives of the home.

 

Other survivors include two daughters, Teresa K. Brown, Tonganoxie, KS, Marsha L. and husband, Michael P.Howe, Bradenton, FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, C. Robert.
