Richard Orville Steffen

Memorial services for Richard Orville Steffen, 95, Lawrence will be held at 1:00 p.m. October 28, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. He passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born September 18, 1922 in Haviland, KS the son of John H. and Gertie F. (Milburn) Steffen.

He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp as a Staff Sargent during WWII.

He was an accountant for the University of Kansas. He was awarded the distinguished “KU Employee of the Year Finalist 1984”.

Dick enjoyed gardening, square dancing and traveling Europe with his wife, Eva.

He married Eva M. Dewey June 7, 1957 in Lawrence. She preceded him in death September 29, 2016.

He was a member of I.O.O.F. Lodge (Independent Order of Odd Fellows), Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 American Legion, and American Philatelic Society.

Survivors include his nieces and nephews. He was preceded is parents; brother, Clifford V. Steffen: and sister, Beatrice S. Roney.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to a charity of donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
