Nina “Marian” Benton Richardson

Nina Marian Benton was born in Yale, Oklahoma on February 4, 1927. She was raised in various Texas and New Mexico towns. Her parents were Douglas Carlton and Minne Mae (King) Benton.
After graduating from Nocona High School in Texas, Marian attended The Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha , Oklahoma. During college, she met William J. “Bill” Richardson, and they married on July 31, 1948.
They first lived in Walters, Oklahoma, and then moved to Marlow, where Bill began his career as the manager of an Antrim Lumber Company yard and Marian taught grade school. In 1955, the company called Bill up to the headquarters in Wichita, Kansas. In the late 1960s, Marian returned to teaching, first as a substitute, and later as a social studies teacher at Wichita’s Metro Meridian High School.
In December of 2007, Bill and Marian moved from Wichita into Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence, to be closer to family. Bill passed away in 2012.
Marian is survived by son Guy of Lawrence; son Scott and daughter-in-law Leah of Lawrence; grandchildren Jesse, Hayley, Alexandria and Will Richardson; sister Carole of Ames, Iowa; sister-in-law Jacqui Benton of Tarzana, California; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Douglas Benton.
