Lyle Brubaker

Lyle Brubaker was born on March 27, 1931 in Quenemo, Kansas to William and Rosa Brubaker. Lyle passed away peacefully on August 11, 2017 at The Windsor of Lawrence.

Lyle married Lois Cook on August 5, 1955. The couple just celebrated 62 years of marriage together.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1964, Lyle and Lois taught Sunday School classes and were very active in the church.

Lyle retired from Associated Wholesale Grocers in Kansas City in 1983. After his retirement, he spent his days taking care of his grandchildren, who were the greatest joys of his life. He also loved woodworking in his shop where he made and gave away to friends and family; birdhouses, games, furniture and more. He spent lots of time volunteering at his grandson’s school, Wakarusa Valley elementary. The principal, Mr. Coleman, offered him a part time job helping with lunch room duties, recess, and custodial tasks. It was more like play for him as he adored the teachers and kids so much.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois; his brother, OD “Sam” Brubaker of Lawrence, Kansas; his daughter, Shari Meyer (Dennis) of Lawrence; his son Terry Brubaker (Patty) of Oskaloosa; his grandchildren Dustin Meyer (Deena Schaumburg), Aaron Meyer (Shannon), Tiffany Scott (Nick), and Kelli Jessee (Skylor); great grandchildren Taja Brubaker, Zen Jessee, Ansel Meyer, and Arlo Meyer; and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held at Warren-McElwain Mortuary on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather to greet friends an hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made in his name to Great Lakes Caring, and Trinity Lutheran for Family Promise and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

We want to send the most heartfelt thank you to The Windsor of Lawrence and Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
