Carl Eugene Silvers

Funeral services for Carl Eugene Silvers, 80, Lone Star will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Washington Creek Cemetery, SW of Lawrence. He passed peacefully at his home Thursday, February 27, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Carl was born September 26, 1933 in Lawrence, KS the son of Lorene (Hibner) Rothwell and Henry E. Silvers.

He served his country in the U.S. Army of the 1st Calvary Division during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.

He worked at the Lawrence Paper Company and worked for various area construction companies out of Laborer’s Union Local 1290. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion – Dorsey-Liberty Post #14. Upon retirement Carl did volunteer work with the Church of the Brethren Disaster Response Team. He was a member of Stull United Methodist Church, Central United Methodist Church and Lone Star Church of the Brethren.

He married Peggy Jane Caruthers on April 14, 1957 in Lawrence.

He is survived by his wife; daughter Cathy, son, Steven Eugene and son Bradley J. and wife Renae; four grandchildren, Timothy Carl and wife Angela, Kathryn Leurenia, Bradley Jay Lee, Zachariah Joseph; three great grandchildren Emily Lynn, Ty Bradley and Luke Robert. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris Parker.

The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1 – 2 p.m. Monday, March 3rd at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Lone Star Church of the Brethren, Visiting Nurses and Hospice or LMH Oncology Department and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

    Missing Uncle Carl – I will miss his calls to check in on me, spending time at family occasions, memories of anniversaries and holidays. I will miss our talks on politics, and memories of his childhood and growing up with my Mom. I look forward to seeing him again in heaven! Prayers to Aunt Peggy and family- Love you all!
